School

Going to school is good for your child’s sense of well-being. It is a sign of a normal routine. We have a teacher that can work with your child while he/she is in the hospital. This will also help your child stay caught up with his/her school work.

Ask your child’s doctor when it would be safe for your child to go back to school. Your child may be anxious about returning to school and uneasy about classmates’ responses. Our Child Life Specialists are available to visit your child’s school and discuss the diagnosis with his/her classmates in an age-appropriate manner. If you are interested in this free opportunity, the visit will be coordinated with you and your school.

We serve all families affected by childhood cancer who are living, treated or diagnosed in the state of Iowa, regardless of treatment outcome.
